This new model of the Lotus Ford 72D is built from a Model Factory Hiro kit. This version was driven by Emerson Fittipaldi at the 1972 Italian Grand Prix, which he went on to win. He became 1972 F1 World Champion, winning 5 of the 11 championship races. At age 25, he was at that time the youngest-ever F1 world champion.
The model has been mostly built “from-the-box”, but with a few modifications. These include the addition of various fuel lines and cables such as the spark plug wires to the engine, and the fuel injectors. Rivets have also been added to the rear wing, and I worked on the removable front nose so that it was not necessary to take out the fire extinguisher to close the model.
The model was finished in 2020.
